About

Hello. I’m Michael Sercan Daventry, a British-Turkish journalist based in London.

I do a wide range of things for several broadcasters, websites and print outlets.

Right now, I write and read radio news for BBC News on a variety of outlets, including Radio 2, 5 Live and BBC Sounds.

Before that, I did the same thing for Sky News radio, which provides news content to most commercial radio stations in the UK. I also made video news reports and short documentaries for Jewish News, which serves Britain’s Jewish community.

I’ve additionally been:

  • an editor managing other journalists and with commissioning powers – such as at the weekly Jewish Chronicle, where I was foreign editor;
  • a TV and radio producer (see the stuff I did at Euronews);
  • a commentator and analyst on Turkish politics on broadcast outlets like BBC TV and Sky;
  • a writer – as day-to-day reporter and columnist, contributing to newspapers, agencies and websites.

I was born in the UK but raised in Turkey, and have experience and knowledge of politics and current affairs in both countries, as well as the wider Middle East.

Whenever time allows, I manage the Turkish political analysis and commentary website JamesInTurkey.com and have built extensive contacts within the Turkish, Turkish Cypriot and Kurdish communities living in the UK.

This website contains a shamelessly self-curated selection of my work. To speak to me about a story or to discuss an appearance, the contact page is the place to go.
